CIMG3319  I am a fourth generation, fine artist based in the heritage town of Kenmare, which is located in Kerry, southern Ireland. Art is in my blood and I feel most at home when painting. My great grandfather Stanley Rogers was an author and painter of marine subjects such as sailing ships. My Great Grandmother was the illustrator Franke Rogers. Her work included the popular tea kettle cottage series of books as well as numerous childrens books. My Grandfather was the author, portrait painter and illustrator Cedric Rogers who illustrated for punch and produced various childrens books. My Parents are artists and ceramicists who run Fuschia Cottage Pottery on the Ring of Kerry and are members of the Gallery One artists cooperative in Cahirciveen.

I attended the Dun Laoire College of Art and Design where I studied Design Communications. My particular interest there was drawing, particularly life drawing. Since leaving college I have returned to my roots as a fine artist. I produce landscape paintings and wildlife art in mixed media, watercolour and acryllics. I often favour a style of direct painting using expressive strokes, particularly when the subject is thelandscape. At other times I prefer to paint in a softer, more illustrative, whimsical style. I am a keen observer of nature however and strive to keep a good balance between what I observe and my response to it. Nature has provided me with my subject so I like to respond with sensitivity to it, honouring natures work. I believe that as artists our response to nature in creating culture is what brings a feeling of unity and dispels the loneliness  which the vastness of our sparsely populated landscape can bring.

My inspiration comes from the local area in which I live and I represent the beautiful landscape and flora and fauna of Kerry and the Beara Penninsula as well as West Cork.
